Drug Addiction Rehab

What is Drug Addiction Rehabilitation?

The first step to recovery is recognizing there is a problem and seeking help

If you are reading this for yourself then you may be coming to that conclusion, or you may have known it for some time.

You may have some family members that you are concerned about, they may not be at that point.

If that is the case, a frank and honest discussion without threats or pleading with them to enroll in drug rehabilitation programs

Expressing your concerns and pointing out the obvious signs of addiction may help your loved one to see they have a problem.

But it may take time for them to admit it

Intervention conducted by a professional with family and friends sitting down and confronting the addicted person may also help.

Also, until someone is ready and willing to acknowledge they need drug addiction rehab, it is difficult to coerce them.

We work with you to create a special treatment plan that fits your needs and also we meet with you regularly to determine if your plan fits or if it needs to be adjusted as your recovery progresses.

What Causes Drug Addiction

According to the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM):

Addiction is a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry and dysfunction in these circuits can lead to characteristic biological, psychological, social and spiritual manifestations.

This is reflected in an individual pathologically pursuing reward and/or relief by substance use and other abuses behaviors.

Addiction is characterized by inability to consistently abstain, impairment in abuses behavioral control.

Thereby craving, diminished recognition of significant problems with people's interpersonal relationships and dysfunctional emotional response.

Like other chronic diseases, addiction often involves cycles of relapse and remission.

Without treatment or engagement in recovery activities, addiction is progressive and can result in in disability or premature death."

In other words, addiction to drugs changes your brain and sets up a pattern of substance use and dependence that destroys lives.

With repeated use of substances that change the chemical balance of the brain, when the brain adapts to it, it only needs the substance to function normally.

When the drug is removed through drug rehabilitation programs the brain struggles to regain balance and withdrawal symptoms is experienced along with cravings for the drug to relieve the symptoms.

Chronic and Progressive

Addiction is chronic and progressive, this means it will always persist and will only get worse if left untreated.

With drug rehabilitation programs, addiction can be managed and long-term, permanent recovery can be possible.

It takes persistence, on-going maintenance and regular attention to recovery from drug addiction.

Scientist are still exploring this the question of what causes addiction, but we do know that there are many factors that can contribute to the development of addiction.

Genetics can play vital role and increases the likelihood of developing an addiction by about fifty percent.

Biological factors are combined with environmental and social factors and can tip the genetic scales one way or another.

If there are family history of addiction, alcoholism, or other behavioral health issues, both the genetic factor and the possible behavioral element can lead to addiction due to exposure to family member's addictive and dysfunctional behaviors.

The presence of other co-occurring psychological or psychiatric disorders plays a role, as does adverse childhood experiences (ACES).

Histories of traumas, life stressors, peer pressures, and the frequent exposure to one or more addictive substance or behaviors can as well lead to addiction.
